Many offices and departments at Penn State have sent their records to Special Collections to be housed as part of our archival collections. Records your office sent to the IRC (Inactive Records Center) can be delivered to your on-campus work location at your request, but records your office sent to Special Collections are archival. Archival material cannot circulate or be loaned.

In cases where Penn State offices/departments need to access their archival records, you are welcome to send Penn State employees to our Reading Room. We have scanners that can be used free of charge and recommend bringing a USB drive of at least 2GB to save any scans you make. If your office is not at University Park or sending a representative would not be feasible, we are happy to support your office by sending scans of departmental records.

We can handle interdepartmental scanning requests of up to 300 pages in our normal turnaround time (2-3 weeks), free of charge. Larger requests may take longer to scan; it may be that our team may need to scan and send materials in batches over the course of a longer time period. Fees may be applied if expedited service is needed. We encourage you to reach out to the Research Services team at spcollections@psu.edu for more information about accessing your office's archival records.
