Students may attempt to borrow their textbooks through the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. However, textbooks can be difficult to borrow from other libraries based on library policies and high demand for these materials. Therefore, the interlibrary loan team cannot guarantee textbook availability, and students should be prepared to pursue other textbook purchase or rental options if the material cannot be borrowed.
Students should also know that any materials borrowed through ILL are given a due date by the lending institution. Items are generally eligible for one renewal, but this is not guaranteed. Some libraries stipulate that their items cannot be renewed - these items will be labeled with "No Renewals" on the book band. For items that are eligible for renewals, the ILL system typically grants an automatic two-week renewal period when a renewal request is submitted. Any additional extensions are up to the lending library. If the library extends your due date, the due date will be updated in your ILLiad account, and you will receive an email with the updated due date. Please contact the Interlibrary Loan department by email at ul-illiad-support@psu.edu if you have questions about your requests.
The ILL team cannot guarantee full semester loan periods. Students must abide by the final due date provided by the lending institution.
