Thank you for taking the time already to make your article openly available. Our system tries to find an open access version of the article on the web (e.g., in an open access repository such as arXiv, or on the publisher's website) before contacting the author, but sometimes it misses one.

If you have the open access URL, you can add it to the publication's record in the Researcher Metadata Database. To find records for your publication, visit your profile page.

If you're curious why the system isn't finding your open access versions, read on.

  • The system primarily matches based on DOI. If our data does not include the article DOI, that can prevent a match. Including a DOI when you record the publication in Activity Insight can help.
  • Similarly, if the open access copy does not have a DOI associated with it, that can prevent a match. Including the DOI for the published version in the metadata for the open access version (e.g., on arXiv) can help.
  • The Researcher Metadata Database uses Open Access Button to identify open access versions of scholarly articles. Open Access Button searches a variety of sources, including the Unpaywall database. Ensuring that the repository or publication you choose is listed in Unpaywall’s data sources will help ensure that we find the open access version of your article.
