If your article is available to the public in a funder repository (such as PubMed Central, NSF-PAR, or DOE PAGES), that satisfies the Penn State open access policy (AC02). Our system should detect that open version. If it doesn't detect the open version, the issue is probably a missing DOI, either in our records (you can try adding the DOI in Activity Insight, if you use it) or in the repository. Please contact us at openaccess@psu.edu if you notice errors like this.

If your article is still under embargo in a funder repository (such as PubMed Central, NSF-PAR, or DOE PAGES), our system does currently not have a way to know this. Once the article becomes available to the public, our database should pick up the public access link automatically. You don’t need to do anything further. It’s possible you’ll receive a reminder email from us about the article (we send those every six months). It’s OK to ignore that email (unfortunately we don’t have a way to suppress it). If you want to avoid getting that email, you can get a waiver for the article.

In some cases, you may have retained the right to share the article elsewhere earlier than it will become available in the funder repository. Please contact us at openaccess@psu.edu if you would like assistance with this.
