Penn State’s open access policy, AC02, specifies that University Researchers may waive the license granted in the open access policy for a particular article.

To get a waiver, click on the “Get a Waiver” link in the menu of the open access policy implementation website. This will prompt you to authenticate (if you are not already authenticated) with your Penn State Access ID. Then, you will be directed to one of two pages where you will be able to get a waiver:

  1. If you have a profile in the Researcher Metadata Database, you will be directed there. You will see a list of publications by you that are included in the database. For those “known” publications, you can click the title to get a waiver using that publication metadata. If you need to waive open access obligations for a publication that is not in the list, you can fill out an empty waiver form. The only required fields are publication title and journal name. Filling out other fields will help us to identify the correct article.
  2. If you do not have a profile in the Researcher Metadata Database, you will be directed to an alternative, empty waiver form. The only required fields are publication title and journal name. Filling out other fields will help us to identify the correct article.

Waivers are granted automatically.
